I’m back on the road, and soon I’ll be in the air. I’m currently sitting in the LAX airport waiting to be reunited with my squad. For those of you who don’t know this already, I came home for 2 weeks. The doctor in Honduras told me it was time to have surgery for the kidney stone I had and my dad and I decided we’d be more comfortable doing the surgery at home. As soon as I could, I got on a plane and fly to California.

My first stop at home was urgent care. Okay, okay… yes I got In n Out on the way. After sitting in the waiting room at urgent care with my parents waiting for me in the car, I finally got to see a doctor in the States. He wasn’t sure I had a kidney stone at all, but gave me a prescription to help pass it and ordered yet another ultrasound. The doctor didn’t find anything in the ultrasound, which is okay because 18 hours after taking the prescription I was given I passed the stone naturally and didn’t end up needing surgery.

Now, 2 weeks later my squad and I are finally on the move again! Due to some run ins with covid, half of my squad has been in quarantine in New Jersey and the other half has been in quarantine in Honduras. Today I will meet up with the half that was in Honduras and together we will be headed to Romania! The half that’s in New Jersey will be meeting us in Romania as soon as possible.

Because this is a typical World Race travel day, we have a very long day (or 2) ahead of us. Often times we leave at crazy hours… “oh dark 30” as my mom used to say to me when we left for family road trips early in the morning. This morning, my squad left their hotel at about 2am. Thankfully I didn’t have to be up too early since I’m already in LA. My squad will land here in LAX around 11 and an hour later we will all board our flight together to Houston.

That’s just our first layover and you bet it’s not our last. We will only be in Houston for a couple of hours before we board for our next flight. A 10 hour flight to Frankfurt Germany! There we will get to deplane, pick up our luggage, go through customs, recheck our bags, go back through security and then enjoy the rest of our layover exploring the airport of Frankfurt. I believe that layover is 8 hours, but honestly I’m not sure. We will be changing airlines, which is why we get to pick up our bags and then recheck them.

This is an old picture… but it is how I will be carrying my bags through the airport when I have to recheck it (plus a guitar this year)

At some point tomorrow we will be getting on a plane in Frankfurt to fly to Romania. That flight is only a couple hours long, but I believe we will be landing at “oh dark 30” on the 9th. If I’m tired enough, I might blow up my sleeping pad in the airport in Frankfurt. Although, I’m hoping I’ll be able to sleep on the flight since it’s overnight.

While this seems like a long travel day, it’s honestly not the longest I’ve done. When my squad went from Argentina to Togo last year it took us 4 days because we had two 24 hour layovers. Honestly though, I kind of enjoy travel days and I’m looking forward to finally being reunited with my squad. Please pray for safe travels and that everything with customs goes smooth both in Germany and in Romania.

Also, be on the lookout for my next blog “A Day In The Life (Ministry Edition)” where I’ll update everyone on what ministry my team and I will be partnering with in Romania. Here’s a hint: I don’t actually know yet…. I’ll find out soon though and when I do you’ll be the first to know!

Blessings,

Kaci
