“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” Acts 2:42-47
Today at church the pastor preached on this passage. It took me back to training camp when I first found out who I would be on a team with. One of the leaders gave us this passage to read and discuss within our teams. This passage is such a beautiful picture of the early church and our leaders wanted us to dive deeper into what the foundations of being “the church” means for us today as well as the early church. This discussion is ultimately what lead us to choosing the team name “Bread Breakers.”
While going through this passage, I asked this question: “When they talk about breaking bread together, are they just eating together or are they taking communion?” We all decided that the answer is both. As believers we are commanded to take communion and we can also just enjoy each other’s presence during meals.
“And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” Luke 22:19-20
During our time at launch, it became clear very fast that this team name matches us perfectly. I kid you not, every night after dinner we would pull out snacks and continue our meal. Often times during the day we would snack as well. It was pretty rare to see our table without either a meal or snacks on it.
This has continued on into life on the field as well. A lot of our team times consistent of us “breaking bread” together in one way or another. Sometimes it’s going out to dinner on Sabbath. Other times it’s eating ice cream and cake while getting to know each other more through sharing stories. From cooking together to eating together, food has seriously been an essential part of our team.
Okay, so now that you know a little bit more about how we got our team name and who we are together, I want to introduce you to each of them individually.
Julianna radiates joy in everything she does. I hardly ever see her without a smile on her face. She brings so much laughter to the team.
Bre is our team leader and she is one of the most confident yet humble people I know. She is full of adventure and she celebrates people for exactly who God created them to be. She truly sees the beauty in everyone.
Victoria is strong. She is relational and asks everyone their name causing her to make friends everywhere she goes. She empowers others to walk in the freedom the Lord offers.
Kelsey has the most tender heart. She is a prayer warrior full of wisdom and love. She is gentle, patient and radiates the Father’s heart in everything she does.
Courtney is goofy and fun. She also brings a lot of laughter to the team. She’s the life of the party and knows how to make each of us smile.
I love my team so much. Each of them are a gift from God. They each bring a unique perspective to our team as well. God has given me a really sweet team to start off my time on the field with H squad and I wouldn’t change it one bit.
Blessings,
Kaci
Kaci, it sounds like God put the perfect team together for all of you! I am so proud of you that you are going out, not only to preach the gospel, but to show an example of who Yeshua (Jesus) is. I pray that you all will take care of yourselves and take care of each other.
Thank you for sharing your team family 🙂 I agree that God personally chose each one of you to be together for such a time as this. Truly, behold how good and how precious it is when sisters dwell together in unity ??????
I loved meeting your team. God bless you all. Praying for you.
Mama Lane
Yes He does!! He’s a really good Father.
Community truly is such a beautiful thing especially when as a community we are in unity. So glad you were part of my community in LA. 🙂
Thank you Bonnie. God really did orchestrate this team perfectly. It’s been such a privilege to be able to carry the light of Jesus with us to the nations, especially now when so many places are still closed to travel.
Love ya Mama Lane. Thank you for the prayers 🙂
Everyone on my team agrees that we are the best team 😉
Love it! It was so much fun to hear about your team! Cindy
God knows exactly who you need on your team to encourage you every day!
What! A! Team!!
